The Fairfield County Information Exchange was launched in 1990 by The Business Council of Fairfield County. It has become a respected source for information on the issues and trends related to the region's marketplace, its workers, industries, and economic development challenges.

The Information Exchange is supported by corporations located throughout the county, in addition to a network of public officials, CEOs, public, private and non-profit leaders from throughout the 23-town region, and the state department of economic development.

The Exchange publishes The Fairfield County Economic Profile, a 125 page factbook for anyone seeking to understand the Fairfield County market, in addition to Perspectives on Regional Issues and Trends, a compilation of reports issued by the Exchange. It has also published Higher Education: Workforce Quality and Availability, a thorough examination of the links between business and education in Fairfield County, which includes overviews of the region's higher education institutions.

The Exchange also distributes periodic reports analyzing the region's economic development assets, as well as its challenges. Past reports have focused on the region's job recovery, higher education institutions, regional airports, transportation patterns, cost of business improvements, trends in employment, housing, retail sales, office space, and other economic benchmarks, as well as an annual report on companies relocating to Fairfield County. Information Exchange analysis has led to articles in national, regional and local publications, such as Business Week, The New York Times, Connecticut Magazine, and The Advocate in Stamford.

The Exchange also produces events highlighting economic issues and trends in the county. Past speakers included the president as well as the senior economist of The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, noted regional economists, in addition to the president of The Nasdaq Stock Market.
